The Humane Society of Navarro County

The Humane Society of Navarro County (HSNC) has served the pets and people of this rural community of approximately 40,000 citizens for over thirty years.  Navarro County is located in Central Texas, a one-hour drive south of Dallas and one hour east of Waco. The HSNC is not affiliated with any national organization, is solely supported through the generosity of the citizens of Navarro County, and functions courtesy of those volunteers who serve on the Humane Society board and perform the work of the organization.

The Humane Society of Navarro County is a non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of promoting the humane and ethical treatment of animals, a mission that includes the reduction of animal overpopulation and abandonment within Navarro County as well as the placement of adoptable pets in appropriate homes.  The HSNC’s support of the City of Corsicana Animal Shelter is essential to achieving these goals.  The HSNC organizes frequent adoption events and also provides spay/neuter services, vet checks, and emergency veterinary care for shelter animals.  In addition to educating citizens on pet care and the benefits of neutering pets, the Humane Society also serves Navarro County by sponsoring its own spay/neuter program aptly named “The Big Fix”.  “The Big Fix” enables local veterinarians to apply for financial assistance for spay/neuter of pets on behalf of needy clients.  The HSNC always strives to work cooperatively with local veterinarians for the benefit of the community. 

Because of its close association with the animal shelter, The HSNC is keenly aware of the need for a new shelter facility. The existing city shelter is very old, poorly located, small, and inadequate for handling the number of animals now being picked up and dropped off.  The shelter handles approximately 4,000 animals per year, but turns away animals on a daily basis because of lack of space.  The HSNC ‘s long term goal and dream is to work with the city and county government officials, as well as Navarro County citizens and businesses to join forces in securing a site and funding for a state of the art animal shelter to serve the entire county.
